Smart Cities: Sacramento and the New State of Surveillance

FOIA HORSE recently received over 1200 pages of documents from the City of Sacramento. These documents were originally requested with an eye towards disparate treatment of Sacramento’s homeless population, but revealed a much broader scope of surveillance. It starts with sales pitch documents for Siemens Smart City technology, going through Automated License Plate Readers, plans for raiding the Marconi Station homeless camp, and even includes research findings for data use policies on police body-worn cameras.
